Hyaluronidase Enzyme Filler Dissolver

Hyaluronidase is an enzyme that breaks down hyaluronic acid and is commonly used to dissolve hyaluronic acid-based dermal fillers, such as Juvéderm products. It does not dissolve every injectable product and will not dissolve calcium hydroxylapatite fillers such as Radiesse®.Temporary burning, swelling, and bruising can occur, and allergic reactions are possible. Dr. Smith evaluates the product, treatment area, and patient history before recommending treatment.

Treatment Overview

Dr. Smith does all the injections in our office. This is very different from many other medi-spas where there is no physician present and injections are done by nurses, physician assistants, or dentists. We feel that you would want to trust your face to a board-certified plastic surgeon. Dr. Smith evaluates concerns involving filler placed elsewhere and determines whether enzyme treatment, observation, or another approach may be appropriate. If possible, bring the product name and prior treatment records to the consultation.

Hyaluronic acid fillers are the products most likely to respond to hyaluronidase, but complete removal is not guaranteed. The response can vary with the product, placement, amount, time since injection, and tissue changes around the filler.

When more than one treatment may be needed
  • Some eligible hyaluronic acid filler concerns may require more than one hyaluronidase treatment. Dr. Smith determines whether another treatment is appropriate after evaluating the response.
  • Long-standing nodules or scar-like tissue may not respond fully to the enzyme and can require other treatment. Dr. Smith will explain the available options after evaluation.
