Laser hair reduction sends concentrated light through the skin where it is absorbed by dark pigment in the hair follicle shafts. Because hair grows in cycles, repeated treatments are needed to target follicles during the right growth phase.

The latest laser technology allows treatment with minimal discomfort, and larger areas can be treated with fewer complications than many older hair-removal methods.

Candidate considerations
  • Fair skin and dark hair combinations typically produce the best response.
  • Blonde, very light, and gray hair generally do not respond well to IPL laser hair reduction.
  • Dark skin with dark hair may not be an ideal candidate for some laser hair reduction methods and should be evaluated before treatment.
Treatment expectations
  • Most patients need 4-6 treatments for the full result.
  • Many patients notice meaningful improvement after 2-3 treatments.
  • The fourth treatment is often when hair no longer grows back in the treated cycle.
  • Timing varies by area; underarms may take about 20 minutes, bikini areas may take 30-45 minutes, and full legs may take up to 2 hours.
Aftercare
  • There is minimal to no downtime, though slight redness can occur for an hour or a few hours in more sensitive patients.
  • Sun exposure and tanning beds should be avoided during the treatment process.
  • SPF 30 or higher should be used daily on treated areas exposed to the sun.
